MOGADISHU (SD) -The Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abdulrazak Omar Mohamed, has stated that Somalia will for the first time in 2024 extract its first batch of oil.
Minister Abdulrazak Omar speaking to the BBC said that the efforts to extract oil resources in Somalia are in the last stage, and then they will be sent for testing.
He added that the Government is planning to drill the first oil well in the last three months of this year 2024.
Experts from the Somali Petroleum Agency have recently visited areas of Galmudug Administration, especially Hobyo district, where they discussed with the administration and local residents the environmental impact of oil production.
The Galmudug State Government is poised to be the first region for the oil extraction, with Hobyo district set to be the starting point for this initiative.
