Somalia open to offer an alternate port to Ethiopia

ANKARA (SD)-The Middle East Eye newspaper, reporting on Turkey’s mediation efforts expected to include Somalia and Ethiopia, revealed that Turkey could help Somalia offer Ethiopia a port, potentially complicating Addis Ababa’s agreement with Somaliland.

The report also indicated that the mediation initiative arose after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed sent former President Mulatu Teshome Wirtu to meet with President Erdogan in May, presenting him to initiate mediation between Somalia and Ethiopia,

The newspaper, citing sources familiar with the matter, also mentioned that if progress is made in the mediation talks led by the foreign ministers of both countries, the President of Somalia and the Prime Minister of Ethiopia could visit Ankara.

However, the report cautioned that any disruption in mediation efforts could strain Ankara’s delicate relationship with Ethiopia.
