Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitution argues the idea of one-person, one-vote is timely

MOGADISHU (SD) – Somalia’s Minister of Justice and Constitution, Hassan Moalim, speaking at an event in Mogadishu, announced a significant decision regarding the one-person, one-vote elections being pursued by Villa Somalia.

Hassan Macallin criticized opposition politicians opposing the government’s plan, asserting that no one can obstruct the implementation of these elections in Somalia.

The minister argued that the idea of one-person, one-vote is timely and that no entity or force has the power to halt the country’s democratic process. He also emphasized the importance of maintaining a free and fair electoral environment and supporting the government’s efforts to return power to the people.

This statement followed remarks by former President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, who recently declared that the country is not ready for one-person, one-vote elections. Additionally, the administrations of Jubaland, Puntland, and opposition politicians have strongly opposed the approach Villa Somalia is taking toward the upcoming elections.
