Somaliland’s President addresses relationships with Djibouti, Ethiopia, and the United States

HARGEISA (SD) – The President of Somaliland, Abdirahman Irro, has made it clear that Somaliland will never disregard its relationships with Djibouti, Ethiopia, and the United States, which currently share many common interests.

In a speech at the Presidential Palace during a meeting with the Somaliland House of Elders, President Irro emphasized the importance of maintaining long-standing relationships with these countries.

He specifically mentioned Ethiopia as a long-time ally, highlighting the shared interests in economic development, security enhancement, social stability, and regional connections. He also emphasized strengthening the ongoing relationship with Djibouti.

Regarding the United States, he acknowledged the country’s special interest in Somaliland and praised the U.S. legislators and Foreign Affairs Committees for calling for the establishment of a U.S. diplomatic office in Somaliland. He affirmed that Somaliland would pursue every possible avenue to strengthen this relationship.

President Irro also mentioned that Somaliland is enjoying good relations with many other countries and expressed hope for fruitful outcomes from these diplomatic efforts.
