The Ministry received the aid to Sool and Sanaag from the world refugee agency, UNHCR, and the ministry said it will step up its aid to reach the region in order to cover the humanitarian needs there.

“The ministry is focusing on strengthening the capacity of communities in remote areas to be able to help themselves, yet the Ministry of Relief and Disaster Management is providing basic services to help those in need. ” said Acting Deputy Minister of Aid Abdirashid Mahmoud Hassan.

The Somaliland government, which controls most of the Sool and Sanaag regions, has previously described the Somali government’s aid to the regions as political interference.
