Berbera (SD) – Somaliland authorities have arrested a popular Somaliland musician, Qamar Sugani, in Berbera today, after returning from a trip to Mogadishu.

The singer was arrested during a road trip to Somaliland from Garowe, the administrative capital of Puntland, an army official confirmed to local media.

Qamar has recently been in Mogadishu, holding several shows, the singer crossed from Puntland and was arrested on his way to Hargeisa, the capital of Somaliland.

Somaliland often detains celebrities who return from travel to Mogadishu, while Hargeisa airport security forces often detain those individuals, which Qamar tried to avoid.

However, there has been no comment from the Somaliland security services regarding the artist’s arrest and the reason behind his arrest, although it has been linked to his trip to Mogadishu.
