Hargeisa (SD) – The president of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi has today received at his office the Taiwanese ambassador and a delegation from that government who have been visiting Hargeisa.
President Bihi and Ambassador Allen C. Lou discussed the relationship between the two countries and how Taiwan can assist Somaliland in development, health and education projects.
The meeting also discussed strengthening bilateral ties, strengthening trade and transportation, and discussing Taiwan’s role in urban water expansion.
The meeting ended with the President thanking the Ambassador and Taiwan for their efforts in strengthening their bilateral relations, according to a statement from the Somaliland presidency.
Somaliland and Taiwan reached a political and co-operation agreement earlier this year, and on July 1 this year agreed to exchange representatives.
Relations between Somaliland and Taiwan have sparked a diplomatic crisis, as Somaliland claims independence from Somalia, while Taiwan claims China as part of its territory.
