Somaliland attends UK-Africa trade co-operation conference

Nairobi (SD) – Somaliland’s Ambassador to Kenya, Bashe Awil Haji Omar, attended a conference hosted by the UK Department of Commerce on Wednesday to discuss investment opportunities in Africa.

The Republic of Somaliland is looking for ways to encourage wealthy people and British companies to do business with the Republic of Somaliland.

Ambassador Bashe Awil said DP World’s modernization and expansion of the Berbera port is nearing completion, which will be central to trade in the Horn of Africa.

Ambassador Bashe Awil urged the British government to take advantage of the investment opportunities available in the Republic of Somaliland and the port of Berbera as the two countries have a long history of relations.

The ambassador also noted that is was a great opportunity for him to represent Somaliland at the conference, aimed to connect UK investors and trade in Africa.

Apart from the ambassador, its not clear if anyone from the country’s business community represented Somaliland in the conference.
