Somaliland Bans Kat in the Month of Ramadan

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland has imposed a 25-day ban on the importation and trafficking of Kat, according to the Coronavirus prevention and control committee.

The commission said the Kat traders of the country agreed to the ban for about a month, beginning on the first day of Ramadan.

Officials Finally admitted that Kat is a contributing factor to the community spread of Coronavirus and stopping its imports is a valuable mitigating step in curbing the spread of the virus in Somaliland.

Somaliland opposition, traditional leaders and religious leaders have been urging the government in taking proactive mitigating steps that included stopping Kat imports and shutting down the airport.
