Burao (SD) – Burao General Hospital does not have a single Medical Emergency Vehicle according to the Director General of the Somaliland Ministry of Health.
The DG’s comment comes at a time when the country is struggling with the spread of the COVID-19 virus in the second largest city in Somaliland.
When local media asked the DG why the government didn’t provide Burao hospital with an ambulance, he said that they had budgeted it for this year but had not bought it yet and that the ambulance they had had broke down.
Burao not having a single ambulance vehicle has caused some to criticize the government, while other stepped up and donated to the regional hospital.
“As Ali Gadhle Group we will donate an ambulance vehicle to the main hospital in Burao district, as part of our aid to the nation, Burao hospital needs 4-5 Ambulances in this difficult situation, because COVID-19 suspected cases can’t share a vehicle with regular people.” Said Liban Cali Gadhle.
Other companies and individuals have responded to the dire need at Burao hospital, but the city’s residents are still looking to the government for support.
