Hargeisa (SD) – At today’s Somaliland cabinet meeting, President Bihi reiterated that government and military personnel should not be involved in the country’s upcoming election campaign.
The cabinet meeting, focused on key issues related to the preparation and implementation of the House of Representatives and local council elections scheduled for May 31, 2021.
Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi, who chaired the session, talked the council about the importance of the elections laws.
“Government employees, whether in the military or in the civil service, are excluded from politics, the law dictates that, and we will abide by it, ”said President Muse Bihi Abdi.
President Muse Bihi Abdi instructed the members of the cabinet to fulfill their party and national duty, to implement and expedite the elections and return to the various regions of the country.
“Politicians, members of parliament, local governments and all those who have been elected, today are politicians, and they are in the process of fulfilling their political duties and everyone is required to carry out their political duties.” said Bihi.
In this fledgling and young democracy, it is not possible for government and electoral processes to go hand in hand.
Meanwhile, Muse Bihi said they have deployed 11,000 troops to secure 2,800 polling stations in Somaliland’s upcoming elections.
Finally, the Council of Ministers sent a message to all segments of the Somaliland people, urging them to work together and ensure that these elections are held in a safe and secure manner.
