International partners to Somali leaders: make constructive compromises

Mogadishu (SD) – Somalia’s international partners have issued a statement warning Somali federal and regional government leaders not to miss the important opportunity of the upcoming conference in Mogadishu.

“Somalia’s international partners consider the upcoming Federal Government of Somalia – Federal Member States (FGS-FMS) summit in Mogadishu as a critical opportunity that must not be missed to advance peace and security in Somalia.” The partners said in a released statement.

International friends of Somalia praised the PM for convening the conference “We commend Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble for convening the summit and look forward to his continued leadership in the electoral process, including electoral security.”

The international community also said it welcomes the commitment of all regional leaders to attend the summit unconditionally.

“We welcome the commitment of all FMS leaders to participate in the summit without preconditions. We call on all FGS and FMS leaders to make constructive compromises to reach agreement quickly, so that the country can swiftly organize elections based on the 17 September Agreement.”

The conference scheduled to open today in Mogadishu, convened by Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble, has been postponed, with the absence of the presidents of HirShabelle and Puntland.

Sources close to the PM’s office told SD that the meeting would open on Saturday.
