Somaliland concern with Threatening Security, Abusive Language, and Clan Meetings

HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland Announces Actions Against Activities Threatening Security, Abusive Language, and Clan Meetings

A press release from the Ministry of Interior stated, “It has been agreed that legal action will be taken against those who call for insecurity and anyone who engages in actions that affect the general security of the Somaliland Republic.”

It was decided that legal steps will be taken against those who use the media to spread insults and defamatory language that divides the community and incites hatred and hostility among the population.

“The media must avoid broadcasting inflammatory statements that harm the unity of society and the sovereignty of the Republic of Somaliland,” the Ministry of Interior’s decisions stated.

Additionally, it was decided that starting today, clan meetings in hotels and other public gathering places will be prohibited. Hotels are instructed to be vigilant against hosting such clan-based meetings, and action will be taken against anyone who permits such gatherings.

Finally, it was decided to strengthen overall security and border control. These decisions come after recent protests against the Mayor of Hargeisa and ongoing clan meetings in the city.
