MOGADISHU (SD) – The Government of Somalia strongly condemns and opposes the violations committed by the Government of Ethiopia within Somalia, which disrupts the security and stability of the country. These actions are a breach of international laws and Somalia’s sovereignty, and they have been ongoing since Ethiopia’s earlier attempts at territorial expansion earlier this year.
Following the Somali government’s and people’s opposition to Abiy Ahmed’s nefarious ambitions, Ethiopia has continuously taken steps to undermine Somalia’s security. This includes illegally bringing weapons into the country and preparing Somali militias within Ethiopia, who then enter Somalia to incite conflict.
Ethiopia has reportedly smuggled illegal arms into areas of Puntland and Galmudug and has gathered militias from Hirshabelle within its territory. Yesterday, two planes reportedly belonging to Ethiopian Airlines landed in Kismayo carrying illegal weapons.
These planes also transported individuals, including the former Vice President of Jubaland, Mahamoud Sayid Aden, and others who are believed to be involved in plots against the Somali state and people. Ethiopia aims to use these militias to control the Gedo region.
These actions clearly demonstrate Ethiopia’s hostility towards Somalia, aiming to disrupt the country’s unity, expand its territory, and rearm militias and traitors to justify occupying parts of Somalia and destabilizing its security and the broader Horn of Africa region.
Ethiopia’s reckless behavior seems to support terrorist groups, contradicting the principles of the peacekeeping forces, ATMIS, of which Ethiopia is a part. This undermines the ongoing talks between the two governments and could lead to new tensions.
The Somali government warns those leading their country into the hands of the enemy and participating in conspiracies against Somalia’s sovereignty that they will face severe consequences and be brought to justice. It also warns the Ethiopian government to cease its harmful actions, affirming that Somalia is ready to defend its sovereignty against any intrusions.
The Government of Somalia remains committed to peaceful coexistence based on mutual respect but will not tolerate any actions that compromise its sovereignty, unity, security, or stability.
