Somaliland Condemns Egypt’s Military Aid to Somalia

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland expressed concern over unspecified types of weapons donated by the Egyptian government to Somalia Federal Government.

Somaliland Minister of Defense Abdiqani Mohamud Aateye claimed that this would harm regional instability, on a Twitter post today.

“The Somaliland government is very concerned about the Somali government’s non-compliance with the UN arms embargo, we condemn the Egyptian government for violating the arms embargo on Somalia. this poses a threat to the security and stability in the region ”. said Minister Aateye.

The Somaliland Defense Minister told local media that they have serious concerns about the Egyptian military aid the Somali armed forces.

In January 1992 the UN Security Council imposed an open ended arms embargo on Somalia, they later amended the embargo for certain weapons to state actors in the country.
