Somaliland: court orders three journalists remain in jail

HARGEISA (SD) – Three recently arrested journalists who have not yet been charged have been arraigned again in Marodi-jeh Regional Court today.

In a surprise ruling, the Marodi-jeh court remanded Mohamed Abdi Ilig, Abdijabar Mohamed Hussein and Abdirahman Indho-Adde yet again.

The reporters are yet to be allowed to meet with their legal councils.

The detained journalists were among 17 journalists arrested for covering a recent Hargeisa riots inside Hargeisa Central Prison.

The other journalists were released yesterday after a court ruled they were not guilty.

After being remanded in custody today, the three journalists were transferred to Hargeisa Central Prison today.

Human rights groups, the media and opposition parties have strongly condemned the arrest of the journalists.
