Somaliland denies disrupting Somalia’s Airspace

HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland has denied that it has disrupted the Somali airspace, calling the news from the Somali government false.

A statement from the Somaliland Aviation Authority instead accused the federal government of Somalia of being behind this and taking “irresponsible” steps in Somalia’s airspace.

The statement is a response to the news that the Somali government said that a plane traveling in Somalia’s airspace was given wrong information by Hargeisa, which confused the plane before it was cleared by Mogadishu.

The statement comes just a day after when the United Nations Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held a Zoom meeting with the Aviation leaders of Somalia, they asked them to give an immediate and detailed response to the chaos in Somalia’s airspace.

As confirmed by sources, the ICAO chief, who received the complaints submitted by the disrupted planes yesterday and a letter sent to Somaliland, Somalia was asked to give details on the existing disorder.
