MOGADISHU (SD) -Details are emerging about an attack carried out by militants late last night, targeting the Ministry of Defense headquarters of the Federal Government of Somalia in Mogadishu.

The mortars that targeted the Ministry of Defense headquarters, fell on residential areas near the Ministry, affecting civilians with some casualties.

Several civilians, including young children, were injured in the attacks, some critically, requiring medical attention, as reported by residents living in neighborhoods near the Ministry of Defense.

Reports indicate that following the incident, Security Forces at the Ministry of Defense headquarters engaged in gunfire with the attackers, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.

Al-Shabaab militants occasionally carry out such attacks targeting government installations in the city of Mogadishu, these attacks often result in various casualties affecting civilian populations.
