HARGEISA (SD)-The Somaliland government has announced that MP Mohamed Abib Yusuf is accused of acts of treason and will be brought to court.
Deputy Minister of Interior Abdullah Hussein Mohamed stated that the case against Mohamed Abib Yusuf has been pending in the House of Representatives for a long time, and no response was received from the council, leading to the decision to take action.
The Somaliland House of Representatives recently voted to deny the removal of Abib Yusuf’s immunity and demanded his release. However, the deputy minister clarified that the MP’s detention is not due to his opposition stance but because of serious treason charges supported by substantial evidence, which will be presented in court.
The deputy minister also accused unnamed MPs of collaborating with Abib Yusuf in acts aimed at undermining Somaliland, with evidence expected to be presented in court soon.
The MP is currently held at Madhera prison in the Sahil region, and his detention has faced strong opposition from opposition politicians.
