Somaliland: Kulmiye denies Faraton set to resign

Hargeisa (SD) – Waberi newspaper in Hargeisa reported that Yasin Haji Mohamud Faraton, a member of the new Somaliland House of Representatives, who recently ran for the post of Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives, but was defeated is to resign.

According to sources close to MP Faraton, Yassin is currently working to resign from the Somaliland House of Representatives, but is said to be awaiting further consultation with President Muse Bihi Abdi.

Kulmiye party spokesman Abdinasir Buni responded to local media reports that former foreign minister and a current member of parliament from the Sool region, Yassin Haji Mohamud Faraton is resigning.

“In response to the Waberi newspaper report, that Mr. Yassin Haji Mohamud Faraton will resign after consultations. There is no such thing at all. Mr. Yassin Haji Mohamud Faraton is a shining national symbol in the new House of Representatives,” said a spokesman Buni.

Yasin Haji Mohamud Faraton was previously Somaliland’s foreign minister, but resigned after President Bihi proposed to him to seek a leadership role in the House of Representative.
