Las Anod May 11, 2023 (SD) – A former Somaliland military commander was today welcomed to the city of Las Anod after defecting and joining the ranks of the SSC-Khatumo forces.

Garaad Jama Garaad Ismail, who welcomed the former Somaliland commander, said he was pleased that the soldiers had come to protect their people from the violence that has been inflicted on them.

“We are delighted that the soldiers are here today, knowing their people and our community have a need to be defended.” said Garaad Ismail.

The Garaad also said that the soldiers had been stationed in the village of Samakaab and that they were experienced soldiers. He called on other SSC soldiers who were still in Somaliland forces to join them.

The Garaad also called on the outgoing President of Somaliland to withdraw his troops from Las Anod, warning that if they do not, there will be no peace in the area, added that they are done with Somaliland.

All other SSC fighters and officials in the area have also welcomed the new soldiers into their ranks.

The head of education in Somaliland for Sool province who also defected to the SSC rebels yesterday was among those who welcomed the troops to Las Anod today.
