Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland Government welcomes recent statements of a former US Ambassador to Somalia Amb. Stephen M. Schwartz and his proposal that the United States opens a consulate in Hargeisa.
Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Yassin Haji Mohamud Hiir (Faraton) told the Horn of Africa newspaper that as a government they welcome the ambassador’s suggestions.
“ we welcome Ambassador Stephen M. Schwartz’s suggestions, the ambassador said something worthwhile”. Said minister Faraton.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland also said, “Of course, Ambassador Stephen M. Schwartz, has clearly stated and acknowledged that Somaliland is an stable and accessible country, and as a government we are committed to strengthening our relationship with the world and to convince every country of our existence and what we have achieved.”
US former ambassador to Somalia Stephen M. Schwartz recently wrote an article, meant to guide the incoming Biden administration on Somalia, suggesting that the US reimplement the dual-track policy.
The ambassador also suggested in his article that the US establish a consulate in Hargeisa.
