Hargeisa (SD – Somaliland’s cabinet meeting today focused on the upcoming 2021 general elections in the country, according to a released statement.
“The 70th session of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Somaliland, chaired by President Muse Bihi Abdi, accompanied by the Vice President Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail (Saylici), focused the country’s local and regional elections.” said the statement from the spokesperson.
Adding that “The Council of Ministers encouraged the House of Elders to comply with the date set by the National Electoral Commission and agreed upon by the national parties for holding the elections on 31-05-2021.”
The council called on the three national parties to work together to implement the electoral laws, especially the requirements for candidates.
Candidates submit their commitments of abiding by the election law. The council also called on the National Electoral Commission to comply with the requirements of the electoral law, according to the released statement.
The cabinet asked the country’s media to participate the process “The council called on the media to present the election law to the public, especially the upcoming two elections.”
The council urged the country’s security agencies to strengthen national security, during preparations for the elections until the day the election process is completed, and to redouble their efforts.
