Somaliland: National Parties welcomes the election date set by the NEC for the House of Representatives and local elections

Hargeisa (SD) – The three national parties of the Republic of Somaliland, today jointly welcomed the date set by the members of the National Electoral Commission to hold the joint elections for the House of Representatives and local councils.

After a joint meeting with the President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi and Vice President, Abdirahman Abdillahi Ismail (Saylici), the leadership of the three national parties have expressed their full support for the proposed election date and urged the country’s House of Elders to vote for the proposed election date.

The acting secretary general of UCID party, Abdinasir Yusuf Osman Qodah, announced that the national parties have unanimously agreed to hold local council and representative elections on the date proposed by the National Electoral Commission of May 31, 2021, he called on the House of Elders to approve the agreed upon election date.

The interim chairman of Wadani party, Abdikadir Haji Ismail Jirde, praised the efforts of the National Electoral Commission and the government regarding the elections and called on the House of Elders to follow the National Parties agreement.

Kulmiye First Vice Chairman and Minister of Interior, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, underlined that the parties are united in holding the elections on the date set by the National Electoral Commission, and called on the House of Elders, he called on the House of Elders to adopt the new agreed election date.
