HARGEISA (SD) – Opposition parties in Somaliland have sent a letter of protest to the country’s parliament and the international community.
Opposition parties have stated in their statement that the incumbent president objected to scheduling the upcoming presidential election.
The statement from the national parties also confirmed that President Bihi and his government had taken the path of dictatorship.
The two National opposition parties have accused the government of committing various abuses against members of the public, as well as the leadership of the national parties.
The statement reminded the world that the president attacked the chairman of the UCID party at the presidential place and that the government in an unprecedented move summoned the chairman of the Waddani party at CID.
Opposition parties, UCID and Waddani, have accused the Kulmiye party, led by President Bihi, of delaying the election in order to stay in power and dismantle the country’s democratic process.
The presidential tenure in Somaliland ends in November, while the certificates of the national parties will expire in December of this year.
The statement from the opposition comes as British Ambassador to Somalia Kate Foster is visiting Hargeisa today.
