Somaliland: President Appoints Committee to asses the Impact of the Ethiopian conflict

Hargeisa (SD)- The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, has appointed a National Security Committee members to look into the situation in Ethiopia, and to find solutions in the event that a displaced Ethiopians come to Somaliland.

The chairman of the Somaliland National Refugee and Displacement Agency, Abdikarim Ahmed Mohamed Hinif, told the media that they are part of the committee appointed by the president.

Chairman Hinif made the remarks after a briefing convened by the Standing Committee of the Somaliland House of Elders, chaired by the chairman of the committee, lawmaker Dayib Hassan Ahmed.

“”Due to the current situation in Ethiopia, the president of Somaliland has appointed a committee to the National Security Committee, and our agency is in the process of addressing the issue and we are holding meetings. Hinif told the Guurti.

The Chairman told the subcommittee that there were between 30,000 and 40,000 foreigners in the country under the auspices of the Somaliland Ministry of Interior and the Somaliland Immigration Service, adding the President grants all political asylums.

The chairman of the Standing Committee of the Somaliland House of Elders, MP Dayib Hassan Ahmed, praised the officials of the organization for responding to the request of the Standing Committee of the Somaliland House of Elders, and promised to submit their discussions to the House of Elders.

The announcement follows weeks of conflict in the neighboring country and a growing outcry from the public regarding the conflicts impacts on their security and livelihoods.
