BERBERA (SD)-The President of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, currently in Berbera, has described the idea of Somalia’s Feds implementing an agreement in Somaliland as unrealistic. Muse Bihi criticized the suggestion made by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, who on Friday proposed that the conflict between Ethiopia and Somalia could be resolved by Ethiopia negotiating maritime issues with Somalia.
He stated that it would never be feasible for Somaliland to be governed from Mogadishu, saying, “It is absolutely unrealistic for Somaliland to be ruled from Xamar.”
Following a dispute caused by the maritime agreement between Somaliland and Ethiopia, which has been a point of contention between Somalia and Ethiopia for the past eight months, Turkey has suggested that Ethiopia be given maritime access through Somalia to resolve the conflict.
The Foreign Ministers of Ethiopia and Somalia are scheduled to begin talks in Ankara on Monday, with Turkey acting as a mediator. The outcome of these discussions is awaited.
