Somaliland President Delivers Strong Rebuke Against Somali PM Over Visit to Las Anod

HARGEISA (SD) – Somaliland President Abdirahman Irro launched a verbal attack against Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre during an address to the Somaliland Parliament. The criticism came days after PM Hamza visited Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region, which is claimed by both Somaliland and SSC-Khatumo forces.

President Cirro accused the Somali Prime Minister of violating Somaliland’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, warning that his administration would “bear full responsibility for any consequences” arising from his actions.

The Somaliland leader further cautioned that Hamza’s trip could escalate tensions and spark renewed clashes in the volatile eastern Sool region. He asserted that Somaliland has the right to defend itself against any external interference.

Despite the strong remarks, Cirro maintained that Somaliland remains committed to peace, brotherhood, and good neighborliness. However, he emphasized that the breakaway state would “defend itself against any aggression.”

The Somali government has yet to respond to these statements.
