Somaliland sees spike in COVID-19 Cases

Hargeisa (SD) – Somaliland health minister Omar Abdullahi who spoke to the media in Hargeisa today said testing started in Hargeisa with a new testing facility in the capital and confirmed the highest number of COVID-19 cases to date.

The minister in a media briefing said “On Friday, 08/05/2018, we launched our state-of-the-art testing laboratory where we screening 60, 11 of those people were diagnosed with Covid-19, one person died in Hargeisa.”

Minister Omar said these cases were confirmed in Hargeisa, Burao, Borama and Yufle, but didn’t say where the deceased lived.

The Somaliland health minister also said that all of the people diagnosed with the virus are under the care of the ministry.

Finally, Somaliland’s health minister called on the public to take the advice of medical practitioners and to protect their safety, advising the public to minimize their movement in the country.
