Hargeisa (SD) – The Speaker of the Somaliland House of Representatives Abdirizak Khalif Ahmed reportedly met with some lawmakers who filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court yesterday over the opening of the Associations and Parties Act.
According to sources, Khalif and the MPs discussed a number of issues during the meeting, including resolving disputes between members of the House of Representatives and avoiding any further disruptions.
The sources further indicated that Speaker Khalif and lawmakers agreed on a number of issues, including following the House process on the controversial law on opening the political associations, as it was rejected by the President, and provided the reasons for his refusal.
The meeting reportedly ended in a calm atmosphere and the House of Representatives will convene on Saturday, December 24, 2021.
There was no immediate word from either side on the purpose or outcome of the meeting.
46 members of the House of Representatives have yesterday filed a petition with the Supreme Court regarding the dispute over the opening of political parties.
