Ali Harbi pleads not guilty to murder of British lawmaker David Amess

London (SD) – Ali Harbi Ali, who is on trial for the murder of a UK Member of Parliament, Sir David Ames, has insisted he did not commit the act.

The attack, which was said to be a terrorist act, killed the lawmaker in October during a constituency meeting.

Ali Harbi Ali, 25, of Kentish, north London, appeared before Mr. Justice Sweeney at Old Bailey, denied killing the politician on October 15.

Defendant also denied the charge that he was planning terrorist acts between May 2019 and September 2021.

The Senior judge heard the case in a video format from the courthouse in Manchester, while Ali was at the Criminal Court Headquarters.

Sir David, 69, has been a member of parliament since 1983, and was killed during a public meeting in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. Ali is accused of stabbing him.

After a half-hour hearing, Ali was remanded back to police custody and will be remanded in custody until next appearance in court on March 21, 2022.
