Somaliland: the house of elders asses the drought as President Bihi joins rain prayer

Hargeisa (SD) – Members of the Somaliland House of Elders(Guurti), today discussed and assessed the widespread drought in the country, raising the alarm on the devastation caused by the drought.

Lawmaker Ahmed Dirir Ali, meanwhile, recommended that the Somali regional government and Somaliland work closely together to prevent droughts.

“Every year we go through a drought and we don’t make any preparations. When it happens, we all say let’s help those in need whenever there is a drought. I suggest that a separate ministry be set up for drought preparedness.” Said Lawmaker Ahmed Dirir Ali.

Lawmaker Omar Nur Waaye, spoke at length about the drought situation that has affected people and animals. ” To the speaker, the President and the Cabinet I say wake up and form a National Commission”.

On the other hand, The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Muse Bihi Abdi, today joined the people of the capital in praying for rain at the Grand Mosque in Hargeisa.

This rain-seeking prayer begs God to have mercy on the people and animals affected by the drought.
