MOGADISHU (SD) – Former Somali foreign minister, Fowzia Yussuf Haji has been elected MP in Somali capital, Mogadishu.
According to electoral commission, Ms Haji got 95 votes while her opponent Aisho Adan Yussuf garnered 6 votes.
Ms Haji made history in 2012 when she became Somalia’s first female foreign minister and deputy prime minister.
Mid this year, Haji announced her candidacy for president in the upcoming elections, the reaction in Mogadishu was mostly muted.
The delegates from Somaliland have also three more other parliamentary.
Jama Mohamed Askar, a former member of Somalia’s parliament was declared winner after his rival Adan Ahmed Nur Haybe withdrew from the race.
Current MP Guled Bihi Abdi won with 58 votes, while Ahmed Mohamud Mohamed received 22 votes and Abdullahi Bihi Hussein received 21 votes.
The fourth seat was won by Abdilahi Osman Duale.
