Hargeisa October 15,2022 (SD) – The chairman of the UCID opposition party, Faysal Ali Warabe, called on the Somaliland military to oppose what he called the illegal Presidential term extension.

In a UCID released audio, the chairman is speaking to a man who says is a member of the Somaliland military who recently defected with others, called on the military to rebel.

“Inshallah, if we hold an election, he (president Bihi) will leave, we will form a just government that will unite the people, so gather together, Mogadishu has been saved from Farmajo by a military uprising,” said Faisal told the man who called to him from the eastern frontlines.

Faisal tells the soldier to disobey the order and to rebel. “Show that this man(the president) is wasting our life long gains, 10 years of fighting and for 30 years of living in hunger”.

The chairman of UCID told soldiers should unite and force the government to hold the presidential election within the 9 months that the election committee suggested.

It is not yet known how the government of Somaliland will respond to Chairman Faisal’s comments.

Opposition parties, traditional leaders and advocates of Somaliland’s democratisation process have opposed the two-year extension by the unelected Guurti house for President Muse Bihi.
