The head of Somali Journalist Syndicate released on bail

Mogadishu (SD) – Abdalla Muumin, arrested a few days ago at Aden Adde Airport as he was about to travel, was brought before the Benadir regional court in Mogadishu today.

Prosecutors were reportedly unable to prove his guilt to the court, leading to his released from prison on bail, after six days of being detained by the security agencies of the Federal Government of Somalia. according to SJS officials.

Mohamed Ibrahim Bulbul, an official with Somali Journalist Syndicate, welcomed the release of Abdullah Mu’min, and said that after this 45 day bail, they will know about his fate.

Local and international media rights advocacy organizations have expressed concern over Mu’min’s arrest, also questioning the nature of the charges against him.

The arrest of the head of SJS Abdalla Muumin, is attributed to criticizing the Somali government’s recent ban that the media not broadcast Al-Shabaab news.

Abdalla Muumin said the government’s order is a threat to the safety and security of journalists and all media houses operating in the country.
