Hargeisa Feb 23, 2023 (SD) -A delegation from the US Embassy in Mogadishu led by Chargé d’Affaires Tim Trenkle arrived in the city of Hargeisa today.

a meeting between Somaliland President Muse Bihi Abdi and Tim Trenkle, discussed ways to resolve the conflict and provide aid to those affected in the city of Las Anod. The US government has repeatedly called for a peaceful resolution to the conflict, and Somaliland has also expressed its commitment to resolving the conflict and has been working to stop the violence.

According to the Red Crescent, 150 people have been killed and 600 others injured in the conflict in Las Anod, with thousands of people being displaced from their homes.

Another issue the two officials reportedly discussed in the meeting between the US and Somaliland was the upcoming elections in Somaliland, which have not yet been agreed upon.

It is also anticipated that the US delegation will meet with opposition political parties in Somaliland and other political stakeholders.
