Somaliland Vows to Retake Sool Region

HARGEISA (SD) -The Somaliland government has announced plans for a major offensive to retake Las Anod, aiming to regain control amid ongoing tensions with the SSC-Khatumo.

Somaliland military forces recently reinforced their presence in Sool region. This move is seen as an attempt by the administration of President Muse Bihi, whose term has ended, to disrupt the elections or gain political advantage ahead of upcoming elections.

The Commander of the Somaliland Military, Nuh Tani speaking to local media, emphasized that the military’s capability has been strengthened since the clashes in Laascaanood. He asserted that their forces remain formidable and are prepared to reclaim territory lost during the conflict.

This development comes when President Muse Bihi faces significant electoral challenges, with the loss of Laascaanood becoming a crucial point of contention.

However, it is important to note that Somaliland still considers Sool part of its territory, despite facing resistance from SSC-Khatumo and having established administrative control over the region, which the Federal Government of Somalia recognizes.
