Hargeisa (SD) – The Somaliland House of Elders has today passed the Anti-Drug Law, which was previously approved by the House of Representatives.
Prior to the passage of the law, Secretary of the Somaliland House of Elders Abdinasir Beegsi, gave details of the Gurti’s proposed amendments to the Anti-Drug Act.
The Gurti secretary first read the anti-drag law as it was passed by the lower house of parliament.
“The fourth clause, said a vehicle seized with drugs, found guilty in court, will be punishable in the first instance, with a fine of twenty percent (20%) of the value of the vehicle, Secondly, you will be fined fifty percent (50%) of the value of the car. The third time it will be confiscated”. explained the secretary.
Secretary Beegsi then read out the amended and passed anti-drag law.
“The law was broken down into two clauses (b) Vehicles importing drugs of any kind by land, air or sea, and found guilty in a court of law, shall be punishable with a fine of fifty percent (50%) of the value of the vehicle, and on a second offence will be confiscated, The second clause (t) if a local vehicle has been proven guilty in court to be punishable by a fine of twenty percent, secondly fifty percent and thirdly confiscated, ”he said.
Details of voter break downs were not made available by the upper house.
