SSC-Khatumo parliament descends into chaos over creating a new constitution

LAS ANOD (SD) A meeting of the SSC-Khatumo House of Representatives started amid chaos and commotion after a motion to establish a new constitution for the administration was presented.

The session was attended by 35 members, including both opposition and government-aligned lawmakers.

Following heated debates and disruptions, the Speaker of the SSC-Khatumo Parliament rejected the motion to create a new constitution proposed by pro-government MPs. This decision led to further disorder in the assembly.

The proposed new constitution aimed to replace the founding charter of the SSC-Khatumo administration, which had faced opposition from the Vice President of SSC, several MPs, and opposition politicians who instead called for a broad community conference.

The Speaker emphasized that the motion did not align with the foundational charter of SSC-Khatumo and stressed the parliament’s commitment to upholding the charter and safeguarding previous decisions concerning the region’s future.

“The constitution must reflect the people’s will and the founding charter previously adopted by SSC-Khatumo. This new motion contradicts previous agreements, and we will not allow the rights of our people to be undermined,” the Speaker stated.
