Garissa January 12, 2023 (SD) – A landmine explosion in the North Eastern region of Kenya, caused death and injury to engineers who were conducting inspection operations.
The landmine targeted a vehicle carrying the inspection team on a railway road connecting Kenya and Ethiopia, near Garissa.
Four people died in the explosion, three of whom were reported to be engineers, and several others were injured.
The North Eastern Regional Police commander George Seda told local media that the group responsible for the explosion that killed the engineers fled, and that police are conducting operations to track them down.
The North Eastern region of Kenya has been experiencing recurrent attacks and explosions targeting mainly the Kenyan security forces, and often no one is held accountable for these attacks.
