ADDIS ABABA (SD) – The African Union Security Council welcomed the recent agreement reached by the governments of Ethiopia and Somalia, signed on December 11 in Ankara.
The African Union Security Council urged for its full implementation. The Council also emphasized the importance of ensuring sustained funding for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS), to enhance stability and security in the Horn of Africa region.
A statement from the African Union Security Council expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided by the United Nations and international partners to the operation of ATMIS.
The Council also requested the United Nations Security Council to explore funding opportunities outlined in Resolution 2719 (2013). The Council noted that it is crucial for ATMIS to efficiently fulfill its mandate and support Somalia’s Security Development Plan (SSDP).
