The Electoral Commission Ethics Committee imposes fines on the Kulmiye and Waddani

HARGEYSA (SD)-The Somaliland Electoral Commission Ethics Committee has issued directives to political parties and organizations, imposing fines on the Kulmiye and Waddani parties.

The committee also announced that campaigning and public gatherings for political parties and organizations are prohibited until the official campaign period begins.

Adan Hussein Mohamed, the chairman of the Ethics Committee, spoke to the press in Hargeisa, explaining the committee’s decisions in response to incidents that occurred in several regions of Somaliland. He stated, “We have decided to fine both Kulmiye and Waddani parties, with fines amounting to 10 million Somaliland shillings each. We have also suspended their campaign activities.”

He further noted that the UCID party and other organizations have also been similarly prohibited from engaging in campaign activities.

“The penalties will apply to anyone who fails to comply with these directives, affecting their designated campaigning days,” added Chairman Aadan Hussein.
