Mogadishu June 05, 2023 (SD) – The new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia, Catriona Laing, arrived in the city of Mogadishu today.
Catriona Laing was welcomed at Aden Adde Airport by the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Daoud Aweys Jama, the Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, the Deputy Representative of the United Nations, and other officials.
“I am delighted to be here, and I look forward to working with the Somali people and government, as well as the international community, in supporting the people and government of Somalia,” said Catriona Laing, expressing gratitude for the warm welcome received by the country.
Catriona Laing, who hails from the United Kingdom, is a seasoned diplomat. She assumed her position last month, succeeding the former United Nations Special Representative for Somalia, James Swan of the United States.
The new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Somalia is currently finalizing her accreditation letter addressed to President Hassan Sheikh.
