Somali Federal Parliament adjourned due to a lack of quorum

Mogadishu June 05, 2023 (SD) -Today’s session of the Somali Parliament was adjourned due to a lack of quorum, following the absence of a significant number of MPs.

The number of attending parliamentarians amounted to only 103, prompting the Speaker of the Parliament to close the session and issue a stern warning to those members who consistently neglect their duties.

The Parliament read out the names of several absent members, indicating that a considerable number of them are present in the city of Mogadishu.

The Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Abdullahi Abshirow, addressed the issue and emphasized the need to hold accountable the absent members.

Furthermore, he emphasized that there will be no tolerance for the continuous disruption caused by absentee parliamentarians and that measures will be taken to enforce the standing rules of the Parliament.

Some of the Somali Parliament members also expressed their concerns about the matter, as similar incidents of absenteeism have occurred in the past.

The Somali Parliament is now actively working towards productive sessions, and recent days have witnessed efforts to amend the provisional constitution.
