The Presidents of Tanzania and Somalia discuss areas of interest

DAR ES SALAAM (SD) -Today, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, and the President of the Republic of Tanzania, Ms. Samia Suluhu Hassan, held talks at the State House in Dar Es Salaam.

The meeting focused on strengthening the relationship between the two countries and enhancing cooperation in various areas that can benefit both sides.

Areas of mutual interest discussed between the two countries include politics, security and defense, social issues, healthcare, education, agriculture, trade, and all aspects of bilateral cooperation.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and hospitality.

The Tanzanian government welcomed him and his delegation, and also acknowledged Tanzania’s support for Somalia in its accession to the East African Community (EAC), highlighting Tanzania as a role model for many African countries in terms of political stability, national unity, and security. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation and strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

President Samia Suluhu Hassan, in turn, thanked President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for his visit and participation in Tanzania’s 60th Union Day celebrations.

She praised the progress Somalia has made in security, diplomacy, and other areas since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud took office in May 2022.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s visit to Tanzania is seen as a significant step in starting a new chapter in bilateral relations, emphasizing cooperation, mutual respect, and mutual benefit.

President Samia also confirmed her intention to visit Somalia.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud also today visited Tanzania’s Medicines Storage Agency, MSD and Muhimbili Hospital, where he heard a report from Tanzania’s Minister of Health, Dr Ummy Mwalimu, about how the two countries can work together to improve health services.
