The U.S. and Somalia sign a Memorandum of Understanding regarding the Danab forces

Mogadishu March 16, 2023 (SD) – The governments of Somalia and the United States have signed a security agreement in Mogadishu today, which aims to strengthen the capacity of the Somali National Army, particularly the Danab Commandos.

The Minister of Defense of the Somali government, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, has signed the security agreement with the US ambassador to Somalia, Larry André.

“Today, the US ambassador Larry André and I have signed the security agreement in Mogadishu, which aims to build the capacity of the Somali Danab Special Forces. We will use this agreement to defeat Al Shabaab,” said the Defense Minister.

The Defense Minister stated that the agreement will provide training and equipment for the Danab Commandos to enhance the security of the country.

“The importance of this agreement is to provide training and equipment for the Danab Special Forces so that they can play a greater role in ensuring the security of the country,” added the Defense Minister.

The United States will provide training and equipment to the Somali Danab Commandos, who are a special unit within the military, and will help other military units in the fight against insecurity.
