The United Nations Security Council imposes sanctions on three Al Shabab leaders

NY (SD)-The United Nations Security Council has imposed sanctions on three leaders of the Al-Shabaab group in Somalia, according to a statement issued by the council.

The press release stated that the three leaders have been added to the sanctions list under Security Council Resolution 2713.

The statement further mentioned that the sanctioned individuals would be denied access to funds and would be subject to travel bans.

The Permanent Representative of the United Kingdom to the United Nations said that this decision came after requests from Somalia.

The three individuals added to the UN Security Council sanctions list are:

Abdikadir Mohamed Abdikadir, a senior leader of Al-Shabaab.
Mohamed Mire, responsible for collecting Zakat for Al-Shabaab.
Mohamed Omar Mohamed, the Al-Shabaab leader of the Diinsor district.
