ANKARA (SD)—The Turkish Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, has clearly expressed his country’s firm commitment to supporting Somalia. In an interview with Jeune Afrique magazine, he emphasized Turkey’s crucial role in fighting terrorism and strengthening Somalia’s security.
Minister Fidan described Somalia as a strategically important country for Turkey’s regional strategy, stressing that Ankara is determined to support peacebuilding, reconstruction, and the fight against Al-Shabaab.
Speaking about bilateral relations, he noted that the partnership is deep and strategic, with Turkey continuing its support in defense, humanitarian aid, and economic development. He also highlighted Turkey’s close cooperation with the Somali Federal Government to enhance the capabilities of security forces and intelligence agencies.
This statement comes shortly after Turkey announced a new defense cooperation agreement with Somalia. The agreement includes military training, infrastructure development, and the provision of essential equipment for counterterrorism operations.
Turkey’s consistent support has become a vital pillar in Somalia’s efforts to achieve lasting stability, with Ankara emerging as a reliable strategic partner.
