U.S. increases its assistance to Somalia to address the humanitarian challenges facing the country

MOGADISHU (SD)—The U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley, addressed critical issues regarding the U.S. support for Somalia in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) account.

Richard H. Riley revealed that the U.S. has increased its assistance to Somalia to address the humanitarian challenges facing the country.

The ambassador highlighted that, over the past three years, the U.S. has contributed $3 billion toward essential relief efforts in Somalia. He added that this support has significantly benefited Somalia and emphasized the need to enhance further assistance to the country.

“During the launch of two new programs generously funded by the American people to benefit our friends in Somalia, the U.S. has provided over $2 billion in life-saving humanitarian aid over the past three years to address nationwide needs,” said Ambassador Riley.

He further stated, “This assistance saves thousands of lives in Somalia, reducing food insecurity and malnutrition.” Additionally, the U.S. has pledged $29 million in new funding for Somalia in 2025, which will be delivered through USAID.

The U.S. remains one of the leading countries providing various forms of support to the Federal Government of Somalia, particularly in economic assistance and the fight against Al-Shabaab.
