London (SD) – The UK government says it can recognize Somaliland as an independent state if the initiative is launched jointly by Somaliland, Somalia and African countries.
“The UK has an interest in Somaliland being a successful and well governed part of Somalia” UK Minister for Africa Vicky Ford said.
Responding to a request from MP Danny Kruger, UK Minister for Africa Vicky Ford said the UK, like the rest of the international community, did not recognize Somaliland as an independent state.
“UK does not recognise Somaliland as an independent country, wishes for Hargeisa and Mogadishu to resolve their difference” UK Minister for Africa Vicky Ford said.
She noted that it was up to Somaliland and Somalia to decide their future relationship.
